Flowering Bulbs in the artist's garden

Flowering bulbs provide a colourful journey around the garden from winter to summer with a massive range of types, sizes, colours, scents and ability to grow in sun and shade.

Late winter starts the season with the winter aconites, then snowdrops, both of which are happy with dappled sun and even partial shade. Crocus follow, then as spring appears it is the time for Chionodoxa, (Glory of the Snows), Muscari, (grape hyacinths), then narcissus, daffodils and early tulip species. Tulip bulbs are used to give a splash of colour with the spring bedding plants in tubs, borders and hanging baskets. Hyacinths are planted amongst herbaceous plants around the patio to catch their scent as well as colour.
The summer season main show is provided with a range of lily bulbs, including the white scented lilium regale. Lilies are best in full sun in well drained soil.
