John’s allotment garden at City Road in Dundee has given him plenty of ideas for both summer and winter landscape paintings around City Road Allotment Gardens with pots, water barrels, wheelbarrows, ramshackle sheds and broken down fences and drifts of wild flowers adding to the artistic drama. “Spittal of Glenshee” acrylic, 24 × 18 inches
Spittal of Glenshee was the favourite stopping off point for visitors going to Braemar. There was a very popular hotel there but unfortunately it got burnt down. My painting is the view from the back of the hotel car park and along the burn. There was a lovely group of conifers, probably spruce or pine covered in snow for my focal point.
